Congratulations to NB Founder and Executive Director Carol Randolph for being selected as a 2025 Women Making History Award Winner by Montgomery County Commission for Women and Montgomery Women.
NEW BEGINNINGS® is a support group for separated and divorced men and women based in the DC metro area (MD, DC and VA). Established in 1979, we are the oldest and only group in the metro area that deals strictly with separation/divorce and is open to people with or without children.
A marital separation is a wrenching experience which can happen to anyone at any time for a variety of reasons. We believe that by sharing feelings with other people in similar situations, we can gain a better perspective on the process of separation and thereby begin to build a new life. This is our first task—because the one certainty is that our lives cannot remain the same.
NEW BEGINNINGS® discussion meetings are offered several times a month and are open to non-members. Led by member volunteers trained to guide the discussion, these meetings offer a chance to talk to others who share and understand your concerns.

We offer three in-person discussion meetings each month--two in MD/DC & one in VA.

EMOTIONAL CRAZINESS: When you first separate, it is normal to be crazy--to experience the roller-coaster of extreme highs & extreme lows, often in the space of minutes. What triggers the peaks & valleys for you?
COPING AS A SINGLE PARENT: How do you balance your own needs as a single person versus the demands of caring for your children? Discussion includes issues for those who are dating a single parent.
TRANSITIONS: Change may be inevitable, but it’s not always easy or welcome. How do we manage the many changes–good AND bad–that come with divorce?
OPEN DISCUSSION: Bring your own issues & feelings to share!
COPING WITH THE HOLIDAYS: EVERYONE, coupled or uncoupled, experiences stress at the holidays–from practical issues like where & with whom to eat the big meal(s), how to divide your time, giving & receiving gifts, to the bigger questions of where you are in your life. What are the particular issues for you this year?
HOME: “Home” is a powerful word with many associations. The marital home is just one. Whether you keep the house or find a new one, what defines “home” for you?
OPPOSITE SEX FRIENDS: Many of us never have one until we separate. What makes these relationships unique? How do we establish & maintain them?
OPEN DISCUSSION: Bring your own issues & feelings to share!

NEW BEGINNINGS and the COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE CENTER OF MONTGOMERY COUNTY co-sponsor a 6-week program covering everything you need to know about divorce in Maryland. It is offered twice a year and features 13 of the top family law professionals in Montgomery County as speakers. Audio recordings available for Weeks 1-5.
